Why travel with us

How do you choose a tour provider when so many companies exist?

As you search for a company to welcome you to and guide you through East Africa, you will find no shortage of options, most of them promising you the same things. In our eyes, these elements are the base requirements for any African tour company. And of course we at Redroad Tours extend those promises to you as well. But we want to go further. We want to make your trip exceptional and exceptionally affordable.

Here’s how we do that.

Go beyond the tourist gates. Experience authentic Africa

Experience the real Africa, the Africa that we who live here experience every day.

The real Africa, the Africa where we at Red Road live, work, and play is a wonder. It is a land of good and bad, fun and sad, and beautiful and ugly, all at once. We know our land well, and nothing would please us more than to be able to share it with you.

We take you beyond the villages created specifically for tourists to authentic Africa. Our team members have extensively traveled the Eastern region, uncovering historical, natural, and cultural treasures that exist outside the ordinary.

Visit the ancestral tombs of a local tribe and then tour the King’s palace. Meet a local chief, and learn a community’s cultural norms.

Take advantage of our connections with park rangers, academic influencers, tribal leaders, and the reigning overseers of kingdoms and communities to experience the Africa that lies behind the tourist gates: An off-the-path jaunt to a lion’s lair, a classroom lecture by an acclaimed African botanist, a face-to-face meeting with the unreached Karamajongs, a chance to break bread with the modern tribes of the Baganda.

See the sadness of people who’ve had to leave their homes because of war and conflict. Then watch their sadness turn to joy and gladness when they realize you’ve come to meet them. Drive through an impoverished community where people still live in mud huts, and two miles down the road, be overwhelmed by the beautiful, lush green jungle, and the rivers, waterfalls, and lakes.

Skip the middleman. Save serious money.

There is a perception that travel to Africa is expensive. Traditionally, that’s true, primarily because large companies operating outside of Africa have been offering safaris and educational tours and then hiring out the actual work to companies like Redroad Tours.

That’s how we got our start. Today, we’re an independent tour company. So you can cut out the middleman. Book your tour or safari directly with us, and experience the savings.

What kind of savings? For instance, a typical three-week educational tour costs approximately $2,000 per person, a fee that includes accommodation, regional transportation, meals, basic travel insurance, the study program itself and the site visits and activities involved. That fee does not cover your travel to Africa, but it does include the price of a three-day safari

Surprised? Most people are! Avoid as many travel glitches as possible.

Experience extreme customer care.

We have also established contacts throughout the region in case of medical, mechanical, or other issues. For instance, if a tour bus needs assistance, your tour manager will know just who to contact no matter where on the tour you are. Each tour manager has been trained in first aid, and speaks multiple languages.

Truth be told: Much of Africa is still backwards in terms of customer service. People lack training, and, unfortunately, many have the attitude that poor service is expected in Africa so why bother?

This lack of service frustrated our founder to the point that he established a company-wide mission to go above and beyond, in terms of customer service. We invest heavily in staff and tour manager training to ensure that you receive the level of service to which you’re accustomed. We also vet our partners and vendors in terms of service, refusing to do business with those that do not share our vision of extreme customer service.
