This is a great educational program for your students to learn about African Wildlife and conservation. The program involves your students volunteering at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary just outside Kampala and is capped off with a safari at Murchison Falls National Park.
Arrive at Entebbe and get transferred to your hotel in Kampala.
Take a mid-morning tour of the city of Kampala. Visit some of the historic landmarks, local markets and the streets that make up Kampala’s central business district. Later in the evening visit a local cultural center and be entertained to Uganda’s indigenous cultural songs and dance.
Set early morning to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, located 3 hours north of Kampala. On arrival, settle into your hostel and later get an orientation class on what you will be doing the next couple of days.
Spend the next 4 days learning and volunteering at the sanctuary. Students will be involved in various activities such as rhino monitoring, bull rhino tracking, fence checking, problematic plant removal and community school outreach.
Set off from the sanctuary and drive 2 hours north to Murchison Falls National Park. After checking in to your camp, head out in the afternoon for a game viewing drive. The park is home to a variety of wildlife including the Big 4 and other wildlife such as the Rothschild Giraffe, Hyenas, Hippos, Uganda Kobs, and various antelopes.
Set off early morning just before dawn, and head out for another game drive. This time going even further and deeper into the park in such of species you may have missed the day before.
In the afternoon, take a boat safari going upstream the Nile river. The waters are home to countless schools of hippos and crocodiles, and the shores are regularly a center of activity for larger mammals such as the elephants, buffalos and waterbucks. The river is also a bird haven with sightings of fish eagles and kingfisher hovering over your boat. At the end of your boat safari, you will take a one hour hike up the escarpments to the narrow gorge where the Nile squeezes through to form the powerful Murchison falls.
Head back to Kampala in the morning. You will have the afternoon to go to the craft markets to shop for some souvenirs.
Head to the airport and get onto your return flight back home.
