Queen Elizabeth National Park

Set against the backdrop of the rugged Rwenzori Mountains, Queen Elizabeth National Park lies in the Western branch of the Albertine rift. From the steep valleys and ravines of the mountains to the wide-open savannah plains below, the landscape of this wonderfully diverse ecosystem is seemingly dominated by water.

Lake Edward, the kazinga channel, Lake George, the Ishasha River and a string of crater lakes provide for over 250 kilometers of lake shores and a rich habitat for both mammals and birds, stunning wildlife viewing opportunities and spectacular scenery.

Wildlife Safaris

If you’re looking to include some traditional African game safari days into your itinerary, you can’t beat a visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park. With almost 100 different species of mammals and over 600 bird species, you will be astounded by the variety of wildlife you will discover. Chimp Tracking

You can take a chimp tracking expedition in the Kyambura gorge or at Kalinzu forest reserve. Both these locations offer great sightings of chimpanzees in the wild.

When not out looking for wildlife, spend your days driving through the park’s woodlands to reach the glistening crater lakes. Formed by historic explosions the crater lakes of western Uganda are considered some of the most beautiful in the world. Keep your eyes peeled for some of Uganda’s 1000+ bird species and if you time it right you may catch the migratory flamingos peppering the surface of the water.
