Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in Entebbe

You will be received by one of our representatives and transferred to your hotel in Kampala.

Day 2City Tour & meeting with woman politician

In the morning, you will meet with one of the women politicians in the country. She will give a general outlook on women’s rights and the progression of women in Uganda. You will also have an opportunity to ask her questions. After lunch, you will take a tour of Kampala with a special focus on one of the slums known as Katwe. Katwe is the home of Phiona Mutesi whose life and story is portrayed in the Walt Disney movie Queen of Katwe.

In addition, the tour will also involve visiting one of the local markets where most Ugandans get their shopping done.
Later in the evening, you will attend a cultural concert where an array of various performances of dance and music from Uganda’s indigenous tribes are showcased.

Day 3Volunteering

On this day you will visit and volunteer with a local initiative called 40 Days Over 40 Smiles that supports vulnerable children in Kampala. This charity was started by a young Ugandan called Esther Kalanzi whose passion for children has made her into something of a young icon in Kampala.

Day 4Volunteering

You will set off early morning for Jinja, two hours east of Kampala. You will spend the day at Abide Family Centre, a non-profit founded by two Americans named Kelsey Nielsen and Megan Parker. 80% of the children living in orphanages in Uganda have at least one living parent.
The children are away from their families primarily due to poverty not because they are unwanted. Abide strives to help families overcome poverty and keep their children. You will spend most the day visiting and serving some of the single moms Abide supports.
Late in the afternoon, you will take a boat tour of the source of the Nile before heading back to Kampala.

Day 5Safari adventures

You will head to Queen Elizabeth National Park for a safari adventure. It’s a six hour drive to the west of the country going past beautiful landscapes, tea plantations and quaint villages. You will be introduced to Dr. Margaret Drucili, a researcher, whose life and work has been the conservation of the lion population in Uganda. You will take a game drive through the park with Dr. Margaret as your guide.

Day 6Lion tracking

The next morning, Dr. Margaret will lead you on a lion tracking excursion. You will get to shadow her as she carries out her research work. You will gain insight on lion behavior, their habitat usage and migration patterns. In the afternoon, you will take a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel. This 30km long channel is a popular spot for elephants, hippos and various bird species.

Day 7Drive to Kampala

After these safari adventures, you will head back to Kampala. You will make a short a stop at a local tribal museum. The museum offers special insight in the treatment of women in the pre-modern Uganda.

Day 8Return flight

You will be transferred to Entebbe international airport for your return flight.
