Best Time to Visit

Generally, all major tourist attractions in Uganda are open to year-round visits. While Uganda doesn’t have a defined summer or winter due to its proximity to the equator, it has a wet and dry season, impacting the practicality of activities. March, April, May and October are wet months and might impair one’s ability to delight in adventurous activities that require physical exertion fully.

Mountaineering and hiking around this time are particularly slower and more strenuous. On the flipside, Gorilla permits are cheaper in the wet season. Accommodation rates are relatively lower too. It will please the birdwatcher to learn that migratory birds flock to Uganda around this time, too, peaking between November and April.

The best time to visit Uganda for game drives and sightseeing is through the first dry spell between June to September and the second dry season from December to February. These relatively drier spells compel animals to migrate to water points offering tourists safari game drives brimming with wildlife. The dry seasons also come along with clear skies, more sun, less rain and relatively easier drives along the muddy terrains in Safari parks.
