Live on the wild side as you explore the diverse nature and beauty of Uganda, the pearl of Africa. This fun program offers your students an opportunity to have fun and enjoy nature, strengthen bonds and learn to overcome obstacles. The trip involves climbing Mt Elgon, one of the most beautiful and relatively easy mountains to climb in Africa. In addition, the students will enjoy a day of Kayaking on the Nile and safari at the Murchison Falls National Park.
A Red Road tour director will meet you when you arrive, and then transfer you to your hotel in Kampala.
Rise and shine – it’s your first morning in Africa! Today, you’ll take a four-hour drive to the foothills of Mount Elgon in Eastern Uganda. Once you arrive, you’ll set up camp and get ready for your climb the next day.
Today, your first real adventure begins as you set out towards the summit of Mount Elgon. The climb up and down the summit will take three days, during which you’ll pass through forests and villages, see lots of wildlife (maybe even colobus and blue monkeys!), and feel the thrum of the earth as you encounter waterfalls and hot springs.
Each afternoon, as the day winds down, you’ll set up camp at various destinations. The peak of the experience will be when you reach the top, and witness firsthand the crater floor of the largest caldera in Africa. You’ll also have opportunities to take side trips to waterfalls and other summits.
After your mountain adventure, drive two hours to the west to the town of Jinja, home of the source of the Nile. Spend the day volunteering at an orphanage, and then, in the evening, visit the Jinja market and shop with the locals.
Although you’ll spend today on the Nile, how you spend it is up to you. Take in a full-day, grade 3 rafting expedition, or go to kayaking school to learn to kayak on the world’s largest river.
After your day on the Nile, travel north to Murchison Falls National Park. Within the park, you’ll experience the wild savannah grasslands that the most famous African animals—like elephants, giraffes, and lions—call home.
When the safari is over, head to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. There, you’ll spend the day tracking and learning about rhinos and their struggle for survival in modern Africa.
Transfer back to Kampala. Spend the afternoon shopping at a crafts market.
In the afternoon, transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your flight back home. We hope you’ll come back to visit again soon!
