Gorilla trekking is an extraordinary experience, but can be quite costly. This 3-day trip allows you to spend a full day of trekking and meet with the gorillas, in between two days of traveling back and forth from Bwindi impenetrable forest. The drive is long, but can be substituted with flying or breaking the journey into 2 days each way that are more manageable. Either way, meeting the gorillas is worth the time and money.
In order to visit gorillas, each person is required to purchase a permit, and this allows you to visit a particular gorilla family on a particular day. There is only a limited number of permits available for purchase each day. This leads to a very high demand for these permits. This is why we advise that you confirm your booking three months prior to your trip. If you book your trip any later time than this, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to purchase a permit for your preferred date of travel.
A Redroad Tours representative will pick you up from your accommodation after which you will take an 8-hour drive southwards to Bwindi Impenetrable National park. You will make a few stops for lunch and to take bathroom breaks. On arrival at Bwindi, check into your accommodation for the night.
Set off from the lodge at 7:00am and head to the Park headquarters for a briefing at 8am.
Activity of the day:
Gorilla trekking
This is a full day activity. The lodge will provide a packed lunch for you to take with you. When you finally encounter the Gorillas, you have a limited time of one hour of watching them before heading back to your starting point. This is done to minimize the possibility of transmitting a potentially fatal disease from humans to Gorillas. This encounter with these majestic creatures is arguably one of the most fascinating encounters with the wild.
About 17 mountain gorilla families are habituated in Bwindi and you get to spend one hour with one of them. The park also stays true to its name “impenetrable” with thick undergrowth, towering trees and hanging vines. This adventure can be quite strenuous as it involves hiking through this thick jungle with rather steep slopes but it is all the more, rewarding.
You will set off from the lodge at 8am for the drive back to your accommodation in Kampala. We hope you’d have enjoyed your safari, please do come again!
